As told by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), this Venice, Florida, home was inspired by origami, the Japanese art of paper-folding.
Contrary to the delicate art form, the home is built of cast-in-place (CIP) concrete walls, similar to what is used for underground or partial basements. The result is a structure – reserved from the front and dramatic from the back – that can withstand 250-mph winds.
Environmental considerations were taken at every corner: solar panel for electricity, xeriscape landscaping to minimize water usage, low VOC flooring, recycled materials as available, and complementary site and window selection that takes full advantage of the natural light.
