In the realm of custom homebuilders, many contractors will only take on large-scale projects. Few things are more intriguing than partnering with a homeowner to take their home and site from conception to completion. But I maintain that the scope of the project is not as important as the partnership. Since not everyone who needs a builder is in the market for a new home, I happily work with my client partners on remodeling projects, and even repairs and maintenance.
I have a philosophy about remodeling: we are guests in your home. The simplicity of the thought underscores that a Black Canyon Builders partnership is based on respect and the highest standards of craftsmanship and communication. As a guest and a partner, my methods are designed to keep the process as easy and stress-free as possible.
Let’s face it. Surprises are an inherent part of any remodeling process, but surprises should never come from your contractor. To prevent shock from the unexpected, I bring my client partners into the details of the process from the very beginning. This doesn’t mean you will be bogged down in tedium. It means client partners of Black Canyon Builders are given the knowledge and the choice to determine their own level of participation in their project.
Before work begins, I provide a detailed outline specification describing the full scope of the work for each phase of the project. Then, I share a construction schedule and selection list. The selection list covers all the decisions you’ll need to make and the date by which you’ll need to have them made. It is a tool I create for my client partners to keep the potential hassles of construction from adversely impacting their lives and schedules.
If the outline specification is the full report, then the construction schedule and selection list comprise the executive summary: simple, straightforward documents to keep you informed of the plan and clearly communicate all action items. For selections and decisions, I’m happy to arrange for and accompany visits to local supplier showrooms. Plus I’m available for as much (or as little) design guidance as you’d like.
Of course, we will meet regularly throughout the remodel.
Regardless of scope, the reward of any project is a finished space that reflects the personality of the owner and the workmanship of a dedicated craftsman.
Thanks,
Jared
