We here at Black Canyon Builders like everything about reclaimed lumber. Its full of character from years of use and abuse and usually has that special patina that can’t be created any other way than age. If you have a reclaimed timber or reclaimed lumber penchant like us, you’re always looking for ways to incorporate it into whatever project you’re working on. In our last post we shared photos of “distressing” some reclaimed timbers that are going to be installed as accent pieces in the Day House in Durango, Co. If you don’t want to go through all this work there are a lot of places you can source excellent reclaimed lumber for all kinds of projects.
Searching the internet can take some time so I wanted to share some of our favorite places to shop for reclaimed lumber. A lot of sites also share images in a gallery of their products installed to give you ideas on how to use a combination of materials or to simply see how they look in a number of applications.
One of our favorites is The Barn Pages, where you can buy a whole barn that’s still standing, one that’s already dismantled, or parts and pieces of lumber for whatever you might be looking for. They have a lot of old barns all across the country with a wide range of quality, quantity, and variety so its a great place to keep on your radar.
If you’re not into doing the dismantling yourself have a look at Vintage Timberworks, or Trestlewood. Both of these vendors supply great products in wide ranges of species and colors, and have a lot in stock, something that can be hard to find. They have nice galleries and offer samples so you can find just the right type of product you need.
The more you use reclaimed lumber the more you’ll start to envision it into new projects. Its adds depth and character to new construction in a harmonious and organic way that new wood just cant do. I hope you find some time looking at these sites and see how fun it can be to use reclaimed lumber in all sorts of projects.
I’ll post some images once we install the reclaimed timbers in the Day House soon so check back often!
Cheers,
The Crew at Black Canyon Builders
